    # Ageing Gracefully with EkTag: An Illustrative Case Study
    Table of Contents(8 sections)

At 80 years old, Mdm Than remains active and independent.

She cooks for her family, washes clothes, keeps her home tidy and visits the neighbourhood market to buy fresh groceries. Her family admires her energy and determination to continue doing the everyday activities she enjoys.

However, Mdm Than has become increasingly forgetful.

She sometimes leaves her umbrella at a coffee shop, forgets where she placed her wallet or returns home without the marketing trolley she brought with her.

1When Forgetfulness Began Affecting Her Confidence

Every time Mdm Than misplaced something, she felt upset and blamed herself.

“I am always losing things. Maybe it is better if I do not bring anything valuable with me.”

Over time, her fear of losing her belongings began to affect her confidence. She stopped carrying some personal items and became hesitant to go out alone, even to familiar places.

Her family did not want occasional forgetfulness to take away the active and independent lifestyle she had always enjoyed.

2A Thoughtful Gift from Her Niece

Mdm Than’s niece gave her a pack of EkTag QR tags to attach to the belongings she frequently carried.

Together, they placed the tags on:

    • Her wallet
    • Her umbrella
    • Her marketing trolley
    • Her handbag
    • Her house keys

Her niece registered the tags and explained how they worked.

If Mdm Than left a tagged item behind, a finder could scan the QR code and use the available contact options to reach her or a registered family member. The finder would not need to download an app to scan the tag.

Mdm Than’s personal telephone number also did not need to be printed openly on her belongings.

3The Wallet She Lost on Her Way to the Clinic

One day, Mdm Than left home for a medical appointment at a clinic.

She carried her handbag and wallet as usual. Somewhere along the journey, however, her wallet slipped out or was accidentally left behind.

Mdm Than did not realise it was missing until she reached the clinic and needed to use it.

She immediately became worried. The wallet contained her money, cards and other important personal items. She tried to remember where she might have lost it but could not identify the exact location.

A short while later, she received a call through the contact option connected to her EkTag.

A member of the public had found the wallet, noticed the QR tag and scanned it. The finder was then able to contact her and arrange for the wallet to be returned.

When Mdm Than received her wallet, everything was still inside.

One caring person noticed the tag, scanned it and helped Mdm Than recover the wallet she had lost on her way to the clinic.

    4More Than Recovering a Wallet

For Mdm Than, recovering her wallet meant more than getting back her money, cards and personal documents.

The experience restored some of the confidence she had gradually lost.

She realised that becoming forgetful did not necessarily mean she had to stop carrying personal belongings or give up the activities she enjoyed.

Mdm Than now feels more comfortable visiting the market, attending appointments and continuing her familiar daily routine.

“I am happier and more confident now. I do not feel so afraid to bring my belongings with me.”

EkTag cannot prevent Mdm Than from forgetting or guarantee that every lost item will be returned. However, it gives a helpful finder a simple and privacy-conscious way to contact her or her family when a tagged item is found.

    5Supporting Confidence and Independence

Occasionally misplacing personal belongings can cause seniors to become anxious about going out independently.

Simple precautions, family support and suitable tools can help older people continue participating in everyday life with greater confidence.

An EkTag QR tag may be attached to suitable belongings and mobility aids, including:

    • Wallets and purses
    • Handbags
    • Umbrellas
    • Shopping or marketing trolleys
    • House keys
    • Walking canes and walking frames
    • Wheelchairs and mobility scooters
    • Spectacle cases
    • Medication bags
    • Medical identification pouches

The tag should always be attached securely in a visible location without interfering with the safe use of the item or mobility aid.

    6A Privacy-Conscious Contact Option

A traditional identification label may display the owner’s name, home address or personal telephone number. Although this can help someone return a lost item, it also exposes personal information to anyone who sees it.

    EkTag provides another option:

    • No personal telephone number displayed publicly
    • No app required for the finder to scan
    • Privacy-protected communication
    • Optional anonymity for the finder
    • No battery required
    • Contact information that can be managed digitally

This can provide additional peace of mind for seniors and family members who do not want personal contact details printed openly on everyday belongings.

7EkTag Is Not a GPS Tracker

EkTag is not a GPS tracker and cannot display the live location of a person or item.

    It can help only when:

    • The item has a properly registered EkTag
    • The tag is visible and readable
    • Someone finds the item and notices the tag
    • The finder scans the QR code
    • Internet access and the EkTag service are available
    • The registered contact receives and responds to the communication

EkTag cannot prevent an item from being lost or guarantee its recovery. It provides a communication link that a helpful finder can use.

    8Ageing Gracefully with Greater Confidence

Growing older or becoming forgetful should not automatically mean giving up independence.

For Mdm Than, EkTag provided the reassurance that if she accidentally left a tagged belonging behind, a caring stranger would have a way to contact her or her family.

That reassurance has helped her feel less anxious about carrying her personal belongings and more confident about continuing the daily activities she enjoys.

“If I forget something, there is still a chance that a kind person can contact us and help return it.”

One visible tag. One helpful stranger. One more reason for Mdm Than to continue living actively and confidently.

This case study is based on an experience provided for this article. Personal information should be published only with the consent of Mdm Than or her authorised family member. EkTag is not a GPS tracker and cannot prevent loss or guarantee the recovery of a person or item. Its effectiveness depends on the tag being properly registered, visible and readable, someone scanning it, internet and service availability, and the registered contact responding.
